Driving during heavy rains can be a havoc and worrisome task. Indian women often forget the basic dos and don’ts of driving the car during rains. Like, 25-year-old, Shelly Kamra who forgot to get her petrol tank refueled, “I knew there was enough petrol to take me to office. I didn’t want to get late for a meeting so skipped getting my tank refueled and forgot to take the rains and subsequent traffic into account. What followed was a nightmare; I was stuck in a jam with no petrol pump around. The car stopped and I had to call my brother to get me some petrol. Needless to say, I missed that important meeting,” she recounts.

Keep a tab on the petrol: Always get your petrol refueled before you see it inching towards empty. Taking into account Shelly’s experience; extra fuel won’t harm you, lack of it will.
Keep your car door unlocked: It is a weird advice, as usually everyone says that all doors must be locked for safety. But during rains keep one door unlocked because sometimes water gets inside the engine which can cause a short circuit in the car. During a short circuit, the first thing that stops working is the center-locking and power window.
Keep the parking lights on: Switch on the parking lights when driving during rains. There is a simple reason to this: Rain decrease visibility and with parking lights the person at the back will be able to see you.
Avoid frosted windows: Windows always frost during rainfall which makes driving difficult so switch on the AC to avoid it.
Drive in the middle of the road: Driving in the middle makes more sense for city roads as there are lesser potholes in the middle. Also if a tree falls, middle of the road is safer as compared to sides.
