Yesterday we reported that The Delhi court has restrained Sanjay Leela Bhansali from releasing his latest film Ram-Leela but the latest is that additional District Judge (ADJ) A S Jayachandra recalled its yesterday’s order and said he committed a mistake by passing the decision as he was not informed by the counsel for plaintiffs that the Delhi High Court has already refused to ban the release of the movie.
Amit Sibal, appearing for Eros International Media Ltd, placed before the ADJ the order of the high court which had earlier refused to ban the movie and also imposed a fine of INR 50,000 on an NGO which had moved the plea against the film.
It further showed the court that the full title of the movie is ‘Ram-Leela: Goliyon Ki Rasleela’ not just ‘Ram-Leela’. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in an interview to NDTV also said that it appears that some misinformation is being carried out regarding the said film (Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela) which we would like to clarify and state that the said film is inspired and based on William Shakespeare’s work Romeo and Juliet. He also added that The film is neither related to Ram- Leela folk/traditional performance associated with Lord Ram nor related to Rasleela associated with Lord Krishna. Ram, the character in the said film does not depict or resemble Lord Rama in any manner.
The movie starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in the lead is scheduled to be released Nov 15.
