Check out some easy ways to preserve paneer for a longer period of time:
We all usually prefer to buy one big block of paneer and use it as and when required but often it goes hard or stale. Preserving paneer for a longer period of time is a challenge that many of us face. Keeping it in the fridge that way for longer will not only lose its moisture and harden up but also get germs that can be harmful to health so here are some tips to preserve paneer that will keep it fresh:
The right way to preserve it:
The best way to preserve paneer is to wrap it into a damp muslin cloth and store it in the fridge. Do not think that the water will not evaporate in the fridge, as refrigeration causes moisture loss from the surface. So keep moistening the muslin cloth every five to six hours by splashing water on it. This way it will stay fresh.
Other ways to preserve it:
If you don’t have muslin cloth at home there are other ways as well. Take a bowl of water with a lid and fill it with water. Put the paneer block in it so that it is fully submerged in water. Now cover it and put it in the fridge. The water in the bowl will keep the paneer fresh. We recommend you do not refrigerate it for more than 2-3 days.
Packaged paneer:
If you have bought packaged paneer from the market, place it in the fridge after reaching home. Do not take it out or open the pack if you don’t need it immediately. Only take it out 30 minutes before cooking. To soften the paneer, cut it into pieces and put into a bowl of warm water for a few minutes.
