Road trips can be great fun. They give a family time to bond and go somewhere adventurous by car. Highways in India can be unpredictable. Here are a few things you must keep in mind if you plan on a road trip with friends and family.
Leave on scheduled time: If you were going by train or plane, wouldn’t you make an extra effort to reach on time? Put that same amount to leave on time. In India leaving early morning makes more sense as the small traffic is not on highways. As day breaks lots of cycles and scooters can jam highways so keep half an hour extra as a buffer.
Keep the car clean: After storing away the luggage in the boot. Keep 2 bags outside. One bag should contain any medication you may require, some eatables and a shawl. The second bag should be used to discard trash and vomit (if it’s urgent). For kids make a separate bag with diapers, food and a toy or two for the journey.
Take a break: Sitting for long hours can make people, especially children cranky. Stop after every 2.5 to 3 hours at a place with neat rest rooms and some area to stretch.
Small essentials: Be sure you pack the following items: a hand towel or two, sanitizer, wet wipes, lots of tissues and a blanket (for colder environment or kids).
Take the highway: Shortcuts, which are from the middle of a city, can lead you into major traffic jams. Stick to the main highway. It is safer and the traffic moves faster. If you take an alternate route or a detour make sure it is safe.
