On Wednesday, September 25th, KBC Found Its First Crorepati of Season 16, Chander Prakash from Akhnoor, J&K, Who Won a 1 Crore Cash Prize and a Hyundai Venue SUV.
The latest season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) has just crowned its first crorepati, Chander Prakash, a 22-year-old UPSC aspirant from Akhnoor, Jammu & Kashmir. Chander’s journey to becoming a crorepati wasn’t just about his quiz performance but a story of sheer determination. Since the time he was born, Chander has battled severe health issues, including a major blockage in his intestine. To date, he has undergone seven surgeries, with doctors suggesting an eighth might be necessary. Despite these immense challenges, Chander’s unwavering spirit has seen him prepare for the highly competitive UPSC exam and tackle the hot seat on KBC with courage.
On Wednesday’s rollover episode, the episode began with Chander answering a Rs 3.2 lakh question about Sumo wrestling with ease. His cool and composed demeanor won over both the audience and Amitabh Bachchan himself. He then conquered seven questions in the “Super Sandook” segment, climbing up to Rs 25 lakh.
In a touching moment, Chander mentioned that he would use the prize money to repay loans his parents had taken for his medical treatment, further endearing himself to viewers. But the real tension came with the Rs 50 lakh and Rs 1 crore questions. The mythology question for Rs 50 lakh, which asked about Lord Krishna’s battle with Arjuna, pushed him to use two lifelines. Thankfully, with the help of an audience poll, Chander selected the correct answer and the crowd erupted in applause.
Then came the nail-biting Rs 1 crore question: “The largest city in which country is not its capital but a port with an Arabic name that means ‘abode of peace’?” Chander used his final lifeline, “Double Dip,” to answer Tanzania and won. He officially became KBC 16’s first crorepati!
The excitement didn’t end there. Chander was also presented with a Hyundai Venue SUV and Bachchan congratulated him for his incredible achievement. Chander’s victory wasn’t just about winning money—it was a testament to his perseverance and dreams.
Although Chander went on to face the Rs 7 crore jackpot question, he chose to quit after realizing he didn’t know the answer. Bachchan praised his smart decision, and when asked to guess, Chander selected “Virginia Dare”—which turned out to be correct! Even though he didn’t win the jackpot, Chander left the show as a crorepati and a hero to millions.
