Monsoon alert: Heavy rainfall causes havoc in many places

Heavy Rainfall and Cloudbursts Cause Havoc in Many Areas:

The meteorological department has forecasted more rain for Delhi on August 1, following heavy showers that inundated large parts of the city the previous day. The downpours caused severe traffic congestion on key roads, leaving people stranded as the streets turned into rivers.

The Delhi Traffic Police on Wednesday received over 50 complaints regarding waterlogging issues from across Delhi from 6 p.m. till midnight.

Delhi Education Minister Atishi has declared a school holiday for both government and private schools in the city on August 1, 2024. Announcing the decision on Twitter late at night, she cited the recent heavy rainfall and the forecast for continued downpours as reasons for the closure.

Commuters reported severe traffic chaos not only in Delhi but also on the Delhi-Noida Expressway. In the national capital, those traveling on the Mehrauli-Chhattarpur road experienced significant delays, with some being stuck for over 1.5 hours due to the heavy rain. Similarly, long queues of vehicles were spotted on the DND Flyway in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida to Delhi’s Moolchand.

Not Only Delhi, but heavy rainfall has struck the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, disrupting normal life and causing significant upheaval.

At least 20 people are reported missing following a cloudburst in Rampur, Shimla. Local authorities stated that the disaster management authority was informed about the cloudburst near a hydroelectric power project at Samej Khad early this morning.
