Hong Kong is a shopper’s delight. There are abundant malls and markets offering all local and high end brands. But in midst all this are the flea markets which offer some good and not so expensive deals.
Ladies Market
Located in Mong Kok , the market is hit with tourists and locals. Clothes, accessories, bags, footwear, watches and much more is available at cheap prices. You can pick up souvenirs like Hong Kong fridge magnets, key chains, t-shirts , etc or a traditional dress, chop sticks, tea set, umbrellas. The gadget accessories like iPhone and iPad covers are funky and colourful, you can pick them for your friends and relatives.
Things you can pick: Bags, footwear, Hong Kong T-shirts, hair clips, chopstick set, angry bird cushions, accessories and lingerie.
Around: You will come across many electronic and cosmetic stores including The Etude house.
Prices: They will ask for higher price but always bargain. Bargaining is a must or you will end up paying a high price. Many good deals and discounts too are offered at some outlets.
Restaurants: In the vicinity there are many eateries offering street and local food. Starbucks, Pizza Hut and Mc Donalds are also in the area. An Indian restaurant is also there.
Timings: noon to 11 pm
Reach: Take a MTR for Mong Kok station and exit from gate D 3 or E 2.
You can also take a taxi or local bus.
Also known as night market as the stalls opened till midnight. The market is flooded with watches both local and first copy ones, pen drives, lighters and other souvenirs like chess board, bottle holders, Chinese fans, beautiful scarfs, feng shui related stuff, dress materials etc. Both ladies market and temple street offer similar stuff but temple street is more of a men’s market.
Things you can pick: Pen drives, lighters, watches, bags, iPad covers, laptop bags and clothes.
Prices: Here too, like every flea market bargaining is a must. You can bargain till 50% too!
Restaurants: From restaurants to street joints, there are ample options to choose from. You can make a choice between the local Chinese cuisine or sea food like crab, snails, lobsters and fish. Beef, pork and chicken items are also available. For Indians an Indian restaurant is a good option. The portion sizes at all eateries is pretty good. Beer is available at every eatery.
Timings: 4 pm till midnight
Reach: Get down at Jordan station Exit A and walk towards the market. It’s just 10 minutes walking from the station.
PS: You can also spot some pick up girls standing at the corners at midnight. 😉
